WRYR/Local Lowdown Rocktober Fundraiser Another Success!

Andy Och, host of Local Lowdown on WRYR, and Grand Master of the WRYR/Local Lowdown Rocktober 2008 Fundraiser reports on that great night of music:

On Saturday "ROCK"tober 4th we made WRYR history!  A live concert fundraiser with 10 bands that lasted 12 hours, produced over 11 hours of live broadcasting and raised close to a thousand dollars for the station!  The bands donated their time and talent and The Local Lowdown/WRYR underwriters DC9 donated the club, stage and sound!  The live broadcast started around 5 pm  and the tireless on air efforts of Brett Keller, Phil Lecroy, Robb Tufts and Handsome Dan combined with the engineering efforts of Mike Roche, Mike Shay, Brian Tabinowski and the event hosting, planning and producing of Andy Och were an incredible thing to see and hear!  The live music event and surrounding interviews made for compelling radio that kept listeners across the country logged on and listening up until we signed of around 3 am!  This is the third such live LOCAL LOWDOWN/WRYR PRESENTS fundraiser concert and each one has gotten bigger and better!  We look forward to bringing you more of these live broadcasts and live events.  Help us help you to live a better life through better music.  Thank you all for your support!  Don't miss all these great bands and more like them LIVE every Sunday night on the Local Lowdown at 9 pm et on WRYR.ORG and WRYR 97.5 FM!  Also find information about the show and the bands at www.myspace.com/andyoch

WRYR/Local Lowdown Spring Fling Fundraiser a Success!

Andy Och, host of Local Lowdown on WRYR, and Grand Master of the WRYR/Local Lowdown Spring Fling 2008 Fundraiser reports on that great night of music:

On Sunday April 6th over 120 people gathered at DC9 in NW Washington, DC to watch 9
bands perform from 4:30 in the afternoon until after 1:30 in the morning!  In all my
years of live rock and roll, I have never seen an event run so smoothly!  All of the
bands showed up on time, played their sets in timely fashions and helped each other
on and off with equipment to make the well oiled fundraising MACHINE function
flawlessly!  This was in part due to careful planning, a lot of prep time, a HEAP
LOAD of promotion, a ton of WRYR support, professional attitudes of the performers,
Bill and the DC9 gang...AND A WHOLE LOT OF LUCK!!!!  And WE RAISED OVER $900! And I'm still getting emails from people who couldn't attend the event, but want to donate.  Many also want to know when the next event will happen.  Which brings me to my next point...the 2008 WRYR/Local Lowdown ROCKTOBER BLOW OUT will be held on Saturday Oct 4th at the gracious home stage of
DC9...and I hoping for twice the people and twice the money raised for WRYR!
(details much later on line up...but I will say this...you won't believe your ears!)
Listen to the The Local Lowdown...Sundays LIVE AT 9PM Local Lowdown and repeats every Monday at 2pm, locally on 97.5FM and ALL AROUND THE WORLD on www.wryr.org!  Start you week off right with AndyO..."THE OCHSTER" and WRYR's The The Local Lowdown.

Power Returns to the Tower!

The WRYR antenna was finally repaired today.  The 100 watt flamethrower is back in action and WRYR is back on the air.  "Can you hear me now?"  We hope you can!  It was a long day of repairs by Paul, Aldon,  Harry, Mike Roche, Mike Snedgan, and Mike Shay,  out at Lowe's Wharf Marina, where our transmitter and antenna are located.  These repairs were done 75 feet above ground.

WRYR would like to send out special thanks to Greg at United Rentals out of Baltimore for the donation of  the lift services.  As you can see from this picture, the loan of the lift made this repair possible.
